Welcome Doctor.

The Institute for Ocular Microsurgery and Science (IOMS) continues to develop and discover educational content to keep ophthalmologists abreast of the science that drives new and innovative therapies. To that end, we have recently updated our website with several items of interest to retinal surgeons.

Building on previous descriptions of nonthermal laser considerations, we have added a newsletter that reviews the science around optimal laser wavelength selection, drawing attention to the spectral characteristics of the target tissues and importance of minimizing collateral damage. With clinical insights from David S. Dyer, MD, and Sharon Fekrat, MD, the letter offers a concise discussion of the challenges and opportunities afforded by use of specific laser wavelengths. As ultrasound technologies advance, IOMS continues to direct clinicians to educational resources, including the recently developed Ophthalmic Edge site created and maintained by Yale Fisher, MD. The site provides educational and instructional information, along with a rich library of diagnostic video images. (http://www.eye-edinstitute.org/sponsor-ellex-ultrasound.cfm)

We look forward to your participation as a virtual advisor following the 2010 American Academy of Ophthalmology meeting (http://www.eye-edinstitute.org/contactus.cfm).

Stay tuned for an upcoming presentation of the latest ophthalmology-dedicated, EHR/EMR "cloud-based" science.

Best Regards,
